Do you know what it means to confront darkness with unwavering faith? Armitage Baptist Church stands as a testament to just that. Armitage Baptist Church has been a beacon of hope in the heart of Chicago for decades. Its legacy is one of resilience, even in the face of unspeakable tragedy. In the 1960s, a dark secret haunted the future of the church. A young Charles Lyons, who would later become the pastor of Armitage Baptist Church, committed a grave sin. He abused a minor. Years later, burdened by his past, Lyons confessed his actions to the church leaders. The revelation sent shockwaves through the congregation, shaking the very foundation of their faith. In a move that surprised many, the church chose a path of grace and accountability. Lyons resigned, his ministry at Armitage Baptist Church was over. He was instructed to refrain from public ministry while under the church’s discipline. The victim received support and counseling, her pain acknowledged and addressed. Armitage Baptist Church, once a symbol of Lyons’s leadership, became a symbol of redemption and healing. The church, though scarred, chose to confront the darkness head-on. They emerged stronger, their faith solidified by the trials they had faced.
