Is Ar-Ridhwan more than just a mosque? It is a place echoing with history. It is a testament to faith.

Ar-Ridhwan stands as a beacon. It is a place where the past whispers to the present. Though my words paint a picture, nothing beats experiencing its presence firsthand.

Jakarta’s story stretches back centuries. It was once part of powerful kingdoms. The Tarumanagara people controlled this port area in the 4th century. Later, it fell under the Kingdom of Sunda.

European ships arrived in the 1500s seeking spice trade routes. The Portuguese signed a treaty but were driven out in 1527. The port was then renamed Jayakarta.

The Dutch and English became rivals. The Dutch ultimately prevailed. They renamed the city Batavia in 1619. Batavia became a major port city.

During World War II, nationalists sought help from Japan to expel the Dutch. The Japanese renamed the city Jakarta. Indonesia finally gained independence in 1950. Jakarta became its capital.

In the area between Mecca and Jeddah lies a place called Hudaibiyah. This is Al-Syumaisyi today. Hudaibiyah got its name from a man who dug a well there.

Near the well stood a leafy tree named Hadba. Here, the Prophet Muhammad invited 1400 people to pledge allegiance. This event is known as Bai’at al-Ridhwan.

The Quran mentions God’s pleasure with the believers at this tree. A peace treaty also occurred here between Prophet Muhammad and the Meccan people. This was the Peace of Hudaibiyah.

Later, a mosque named Ar-Ridhwan was built there. The old mosque still stands next to a newer one. Pilgrims often visit this site.

Ar-Ridhwan serves as a reminder. It is a reminder of Jakarta’s layered past. It is a reminder of faith and resilience. Take a moment to appreciate this historical landmark.
