Apelsteine are memorials. They commemorate the Battle of Leipzig in 1813. The writer Theodor Apel initiated them. He was a citizen of Leipzig. He lived from 1811 to 1867. This unit belonged to the 3rd East Prussian Landwehr Infantry Regiment. The back reads. “Last rest on the night of October 18th to 19th, 1813 before the storming of Leipzig.”
