Gazelas and wild boars once roamed freely here. They were part of the royal hunting grounds, the Real Tapada de Alcântara. Right here, at the Antiga Fábrica Daupiás, the air hummed with a different kind of energy. This wasn’t the energy of the hunt. It was the energy of industry. The Antiga Fábrica Daupiás stands as a testament to Lisbon’s rich industrial past. Established after 1855, the Daupiás factory specialized in spinning and wool textiles. A photograph captured the factory’s presence on the former Rua de Santo António ao Calvário. The inscription on the original photograph reads, “Fabrica Daupias – Cruz (Chapeu).” This detail places the Antiga Fábrica Daupiás within the Alcântara district of Lisbon, on Rodrigues Faria street. In the 21st century, the Antiga Fábrica Daupiás is slated for revitalization. Plans include a day center, a children’s activity center (ATL), and a senior center. This transformation breathes new life into this historic building. It carries the legacy of Lisbon’s industrial heritage into the future.
