Established in 1979 Ang Mo Kio Secondary School stands proudly. It was the first secondary school in Ang Mo Kio New Town. Imagine the excitement of its early days. Twelve Secondary One classes began in the premises of Hwi Yoh Secondary School. A short time later Ang Mo Kio Secondary School moved to its current location on Ang Mo Kio Street 22.

The official opening was a momentous occasion in 1980. Yeo Toon Chia the Member of Parliament for Ang Mo Kio Constituency declared it open. The new building cost S$4.29 million. Upper secondary classes began the following year. Ang Mo Kio Secondary School continued to grow and thrive.

However a significant chapter involved a temporary relocation. In December 1999 the school moved to Hougang Street 93. This was necessary for a major rebuilding project on its original site. The school returned to its renovated home on Ang Mo Kio Street 22 in 2002. Seng Han Thong the Member of Parliament for Ang Mo Kio GRC officially reopened the school.

Ang Mo Kio Secondary School’s history is rich with achievements. Its students known as AMKsians have excelled in academics and co-curricular activities. The school has a strong commitment to arts education. The Integrated Arts Programme and the annual NOMAD Night Of Music And Dance festival showcase student talent.

The school offers a holistic education. It includes academic streams like Express Normal Academic and Normal Technical courses. There is a strong focus on discipline. The school uses a merit demerit point system and additional measures for serious offences. A Peer Mediation Programme promotes conflict resolution.

Ang Mo Kio Secondary School’s success continues. It boasts notable alumni like singer and actress Celest Chong. Ong Soh Khim a Nominated Member of Parliament from 2005-2006 is also an alumna.
