Across the shimmering waters of the Penang Strait lies Andaman Island. It’s not your typical tropical island formed by nature. Andaman Island is a man-made marvel, a 760-acre testament to human ingenuity. Andaman Island sits just 760 meters off the coast of Penang Island, falling within the jurisdiction of George Town. This ambitious project, with a multi-billion dollar price tag, is being brought to life by Eastern & Oriental Berhad. They envision a mixed-use development that seamlessly blends residential, commercial, and recreational spaces.

Andaman Island is more than just a construction project; it’s a vision of the future. Phase 1 of this ambitious undertaking concluded in 2019. This marked the rise of “The Meg” and “Arica,” the first residential properties to grace this new island landscape. As of 2023, a road bridge connects Andaman Island to Tanjong Pinang. A second bridge, linking the island to Gurney Drive, is currently underway, further cementing its connection to Penang Island. The grand plan for Andaman Island has expanded since its inception. A RM60 billion masterplan, unveiled in 2024, envisions three distinct segments: the Shoreline, Gurney Green, and the Canalside. Each segment offers a unique blend of lifestyle experiences, from serene natural integration to vibrant commercial hubs. Completion of all three is projected by 2030.

Andaman Island is also designed with sustainability in mind. The developers have emphasized eco-conscious design and incorporated green practices throughout the project. From rainwater harvesting to renewable energy sources and abundant green spaces, these efforts aim to minimize the island’s environmental impact. The response to Andaman Island has been enthusiastic, with its initial residential offerings, including high-rise developments and landed properties, quickly selling out. The Lume, a premium condominium, saw strong sales following its launch, demonstrating a high demand for luxury living combined with sustainable design. There’s even talk of designating Andaman Island as a special economic zone, potentially transforming it into a key driver of economic growth for the region. Andaman Island stands as a symbol of Penang’s progress and ambition. It’s a testament to the power of vision, innovation, and sustainable development, and a glimpse into the future of island living.
