The Ancienne abbaye châteaux de Mery sur Oise whispers a tale of centuries past. Imagine standing right here, where monks from the Saint-Denis Abbey first dared to tame the wilderness. It was the 670s when they carved out a space for their monastery. Two hundred years later, a Cistercian church rose, marking the birth of “Madriacus”. The Ancienne abbaye châteaux de Mery sur Oise wasn’t always a grand château. In the 12th century, it was absorbed into the domain of the Buffé family. They built a feudal manor, a precursor to the elegance that would follow. By 1375, Pierre d’Orgemont, advisor to King Charles V, claimed the land. He envisioned something grander, replacing the manor with a sprawling country estate. His descendant, Claude, continued this legacy, shaping the estate into a château. The 17th century saw the rise of the Saint-Chamans family. Antoine, Antoine II, and finally, François, each added their touch, solidifying the château’s present grandeur. As centuries passed, the Ségur-Lamoignon family took ownership, holding onto the Ancienne abbaye châteaux de Mery sur Oise until 1976. Even the celebrated Countess de Ségur, known for her captivating children’s tales, found inspiration within these walls. But time, as it often does, brought change. In 1980, the Compagnie Générale des Eaux, later known as Vivendi, acquired the château and undertook its restoration. Then, in 2002, the town of Mery sur Oise reclaimed its treasure. The Ancienne abbaye châteaux de Mery sur Oise stands as a testament to a rich tapestry of history, echoing with the laughter of grand balls and the quiet whispers of countless stories.
