A forgotten corner transformed. That’s the story of Amphionpark. Picture this green space in Munich’s Moosach district. For years it was neglected. A simple playground and worn-out sports areas existed. However mature trees thrived undisturbed. Even a small protected woodland flourished.
Amphionpark wasn’t always so overlooked. Its name echoes a singing society. This group resided in a tavern. The tavern once stood where the present-day school now stands. They chose the name Amphion after the Greek god of music.
In 2018 everything changed. A 1.1 million euro renovation breathed new life into Amphionpark. This money came from the “Soziale Stadt” project. This initiative aims to improve social infrastructure in urban areas.
The transformation was remarkable. Workshops involved local children and teenagers. Their wishes shaped the new park’s design. The result is a fantastic playground. This playground caters to all ages from toddlers to older children. The former asphalt sports area now boasts a synthetic turf pitch. It also has a basketball court and a trampoline. New seating areas and picnic spots invite relaxation. There are even exercise areas for seniors.
Remarkably not a single tree was removed during the renovation. The old trees remain a beautiful backdrop. They stand as silent witnesses to the park’s evolution. Amphionpark today is a vibrant space. It is a place for recreation and community. It is a testament to the power of transformation and community engagement.
