Can a church be an ambassador? Here at Ambassador Baptist Church in Minneapolis, that’s the very idea. This church isn’t just a building. It’s a testament to a small group of believers who, back in 1983, started meeting at Vern May Photo Studio as “The Baptist Fellowship.” Their pastor, Bruce Henry, joined them in February of that year, guiding them as they grew. They could have chosen any name, but on May 1, 1983, they chose “Ambassador Baptist Church.” They prayed their church would always embody that spirit, spreading a divine message. Ambassador Baptist Church officially became a church on April 1, 1984, with a charter service led by Dr. Walter Olsen. He celebrated their progress and encouraged them to stay true to God’s word. A significant turning point came in 1985. They had the opportunity to purchase this property on Lexington Avenue at a price far below its value. It seemed impossible, requiring an extra $500 per month, or $30 per family. Yet, they secured a mortgage and moved in November 1985. The church continued to grow. They bought an additional lot to the east in 1989 and two more on the south side in 2000. Fast forward to May 2022, a major renovation began, culminating in the building you see today, which opened its doors on March 26, 2023. Ambassador Baptist Church stands as a symbol of faith, growth, and community. From a small fellowship meeting in a photo studio to this beautiful building, their journey reflects their commitment to their three-fold vision: glorifying God, evangelizing the lost, and building up Christians. So, as you stand before Ambassador Baptist Church, remember it’s more than just bricks and mortar. It’s a living embodiment of its name, an ambassador for faith in the heart of Minneapolis.
