Gazing upon Amazing Grace Lutheran Church, one might not guess its vibrant past and its journey of transformation. Amazing Grace Lutheran Church once stood proudly at 10056 Renton Avenue South. It housed not just a 7,300-square-foot church, but also a 7,800-square-foot elementary school, all nestled on 2.2 acres. In 2019, CRISTA Ministries acquired Amazing Grace Lutheran Church for $3.6 million. This marked a significant shift for both organizations. CRISTA Ministries relocated their Seattle Urban Academy to the property. This academy focuses on providing education for at-risk high school students. Amazing Grace Lutheran Church, in turn, sought a new home, leasing a space elsewhere in the city. The sale also impacted the Amazing Grace Christian School. This school, part of Renton Prep Christian School, eventually moved to Renton. The story of Amazing Grace Lutheran Church isn’t just about bricks and mortar. It’s about the people who breathed life into its walls. Pastor Susanna Muzzin served Amazing Grace, first as an intern in 2019, then as the full pastor after her ordination in 2021. Her background, a fascinating blend of history and theology, brought a unique perspective to her leadership. Liz Duerksen, the dedicated Office Administrator since 2016, became a familiar face to the congregation. Her commitment extended beyond administrative tasks. Her family was actively involved, and her presence helped create a welcoming atmosphere. Amazing Grace Lutheran Church’s story reminds us that change is constant.
