Hidden within Minneapolis, Great Grace Assembly of God pulsates with a vibrant history. This church isn’t just a building. It’s a testament to faith, resilience, and the power of community. Great Grace Assembly of God was born in February 2001. A small group, led by Elder Kyei Forkuo, felt a calling to establish an Assembly of God church. They saw a need among the African community in Minneapolis. They began with prayer meetings in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Felix Badu in Bloomington. The congregation quickly outgrew the Badu’s home. They relocated to Park Assembly of God Church in St. Louis Park later that year. The church continued to grow under the leadership of Pastor Opoku Kwarteng. Several key figures contributed to the church’s early development. These included Rev. Philip Asare, Mr. and Mrs. Badu, Tony Agyei, Dr. Samuel Boadu, Mrs. Vivian Boadu, Elder Kyei-Forkuo and his wife Veronica, and George Ofori. Later, James Asare, Robert Owusu, Rev. Noah Oti Vandyke, Pastor Ernest Yeboah, Pastor Kwame Hyeamang, Pastor Afriyie, and Rev. Dr. Samuel Obeng-Appau joined their ranks. Rev. Dr. Obeng-Appau played a crucial role. He restructured the church and established leadership training programs. He also energized the youth ministry. Rev. Philip Asare, an original member, became the church’s first official pastor in 2003. He was ordained with the support of Rev. Dr. Obeng-Appau and the General Superintendent of Ghana Assembly of God Church, Rev. Dontoh. Great Grace Assembly of God continued to expand, reaching a membership of 250 between 2007 and 2010. This growth led to the purchase of their current building on North Earl Street for $350,000 in April 2010. The church faced challenges and setbacks. Yet, their faith remained unshaken. After Rev. Asare’s departure in 2011, Rev. Dr. Kelly McRoberts served as interim pastor, guiding the church through a period of transition. Great Grace Assembly of God stands as a beacon of faith. It has witnessed countless souls saved and lives transformed. It continues to serve the community, guided by its mission to glorify God, nurture spiritual life, and spread the good news. The church embodies the spirit of resilience and the enduring power of faith.
