Founded in 1896 the Alpha Sigma Phi fraternity at the University of Chicago boasts a rich history. Its original chapter thrived for a time. However it was suspended in 1935 due to low membership. Imagine the quiet halls of the old fraternity house. This house was the heart of the chapter. It pulsed with life laughter and camaraderie.

Fast forward to 2018. A group of determined University of Chicago students decided to reignite the flame. They reached out to Alpha Sigma Phi’s national headquarters. They began the process of reviving the Chi Chapter. Mike Carlo and Kyle Postal expansion consultants guided them.

February arrived. The chapter was officially installed under provisional status. This meant they faced many challenges. They had to meet rigorous national standards to become a full chapter. These included academic financial social and membership standards. This was a crucial time. It would determine their fate.

Micael Guzman a second-year student led the fifteen members. The fraternity’s revival was a remarkable accomplishment. It became the thirteenth active social fraternity on campus. Think of the celebrations the anticipation. The weight of history rested on their shoulders.

Alpha Sigma Phi’s statement to the university newspaper The Maroon is revealing. They wanted to be stronger individuals. They aimed to be active participants in the campus community. This demonstrates a commitment to both personal growth and social responsibility.

The fraternity faced a common challenge. Fraternities across the nation struggle with issues like hazing and sexual assault. Alpha Sigma Phi emphasized personal integrity. They implemented strict policies against harmful actions. They focused on creating a brotherhood focused on doing right by others. This proactive approach demonstrates a commitment to a safe and positive environment.

The fraternity welcomed diversity. They accepted members from all socioeconomic backgrounds races political views and sexual orientations. Their inclusive approach is notable. It contrasts with some organizations that lack such openness. The Alpha Sigma Phi fraternity showed a commitment to creating a place for everyone. It focused on shared qualities of being open friendly and motivated. This is something they emphasized.

Though not officially recognized as a student organization they were made up solely of College students. They began holding social events. They participated in philanthropy with charitable partners. This reflects their commitment to both social and community engagement. The Alpha Sigma Phi fraternity’s legacy lives on. It continues to shape lives and impact the University of Chicago community.
