What if these mountains could talk? Today, we stand before Alpe Stafeldon. It is more than just an alpine hut. It is a witness to centuries of history in this land.

Liechtenstein has been inhabited since the 5th millennium BC. However, it became a principality in 1719. Prince Johann Adam acquired the Lordship of Schellenberg and the County of Vaduz. He elevated the territory and gave it the name Liechtenstein. The country then received its sovereignty in 1806.

Imagine life in the early days. The Walser people settled the higher areas. These included Masescha and Gnalp. They spread towards the valley. They established areas such as Jenaboda and Rotaboda. In Masescha, they built a chapel. It was dedicated to Saint Theodul.

The Free Walsers received privileges for clearing the land. They got freehold rights and were freed from taxes. This changed in 1618. The Dukes of Hohenems removed these privileges. In 1652, the ownership of mountain Alps was redistributed.

Alps like those in Steg and Silum remained. Agriculture relied on a single dairy until 1888. The cooperative management of the Alps benefited both nature and farmers.

After World War 2, Triesenberg transformed economically. Villagers worked in industries in the valley. Triesenberg became a dormitory settlement. Land divisions were reassessed between 1960 and 1993. This was due to the decline in agriculture.

Liechtenstein has a fascinating mix of old and new. It is a principality with a democratic base. The Prince and the people share power. This small country has a rich history. It also has a vibrant economy.

Today, Liechtenstein is known for innovation and education. It is also a financial center. It offers market access to the EU and Switzerland. It guarantees political and economic stability.
