A Parisian whisper. That’s what Avenue du Coq feels like. A secret murmured through time.

This isn’t just any Parisian street. Avenue du Coq is a sliver of history tucked away in the 9th arrondissement. Its name itself tells a tale of centuries past. It recalls the Chateau du Coq. A former country house once belonging to Hugues Le Coq. He was the provost of Parisian merchants from 1420 to 1429. Imagine the bustling marketplace he oversaw. Now only this quiet avenue remains.

Before Le Coq the land held another name: Chateau des Porcherons. Built in 1310 by descendants of Andre Porcheron. He owned a house there in 1290. It was the heart of a small hamlet. The hamlet grew. It became known as Les Porcherons.

In 1386 Jean Cocq II inherited the estate. He was the Lord of Egrenay. The estate stayed in the Le Cocq family. A family of magistrates. Then it took on its famous name Chateau du Coq.

Later the Marshal of France Duke Louis de Brancas became its owner. He transformed it into the Folie Brancas. He housed Mademoiselle Pouponne there. She was a performer at the Opera. What secrets did those walls hold?

The Folie was demolished in 1854. All that remains is a short impasse. A grandly named Avenue du Coq. It stands as a testament to the chateau. It’s a gentle reminder of its illustrious past.

Walk this avenue. Feel the weight of centuries under your feet. Hear the whispers of history. This is more than just a street. It is a living memory. A story etched into the very stones beneath you. This is Avenue du Coq. A place where the past gently breathes.
