Let’s wander down Allée du Château Gobillon, a street named after a forgotten château. Once upon a time, this avenue was bordered by a majestic château, a grand manor house that stood proudly in the heart of Livry-Gargan. Sadly, the château has long since vanished, swallowed by time and progress, leaving behind only this street, a whisper of its former glory. Imagine the elegance of the château’s gardens stretching out before you, and the laughter of children tumbling amongst its manicured lawns. It was an important estate. During the 17th century, the name Gobillon was associated with Livry-Gargan. A family bearing this name even had a seat in the Paris Assembly in 1548. The château, as a double square on an early 18th-century map, was likely a fortified house, maybe even a ruin by that time. The street we are standing on today continues to bear the name, a faint echo of its past. Today, Allée du Château Gobillon is a quiet, residential street, a place where families gather and children play. Though the château is gone, its story lives on in the name of the street, a silent reminder of a grand past.
