Allée des Amandiers got its name in 1863. Before that it was Rue des Amandiers-Popincourt. This path existed as early as 1672. It was then just a small trail. By 1785 it stretched beyond the Wall of the Farmers-General. It extended Rue du Chemin-Vert.
Rue des Amandiers-Popincourt once started at Avenue Parmentier. It followed Rue du Chemin-Vert and then its current path. Finally it ran along Rue de la Mare. There were observation points for the Belleville water system. It marked a large part of the Panoyau vineyard. The vineyard gave its name to Rue des Panoyaux.
This street wasn’t always called Allée des Amandiers. In the 14th century the current Rue Laplace was called Rue des Amandiers. In the 1980s and 1990s Allée des Amandiers was central to the ZAC des Amandiers project. This project focused on redeveloping the area.
Several interesting buildings and memorials line Allée des Amandiers. At number 8 Jean Népomucène Hermann Nast moved his porcelain factory. The factory operated there from 1785 to at least 1851. Painter Camille Flers was born in a house on this street.
A local branch of the League of the Just existed here. This revolutionary group of German workers and intellectuals invited Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels to visit. In 1847 the police arrested Adolph Junge. He led the group and was then expelled.
From 1895 to 1927 at number 30 Henri Gautreau ran his glass alcohol stove factory. These stoves were stamped H.G. Paris. At number 45 stands Les Génies des Eaux. This monumental fountain was created by sculptor Yvette Vincent-Alleaume.
