Imagine walking along a leafy path in the Bois de Boulogne. The sun filters through the trees, casting dappled shadows on the ground. You hear the murmur of wind in the leaves and the distant sounds of Paris life fading into the tranquil background. This is Allée de la Reine Marguerite. It’s a bit of a hidden gem, quiet compared to some of the bustling avenues in Paris.
The road was once a part of the territory of Boulogne-Billancourt and Neuilly-sur-Seine. These became part of Paris in 1925 and 1929 respectively. A few years later, in 1965, a rather curious event took place here. The famous playboy Porfirio Rubirosa, you know, the racing driver, married to a few famous actresses, was driving his Ferrari along Allée de la Reine Marguerite. He drove into the back of a vehicle that was stopped. The impact sent the Ferrari into a tree. Unfortunately, Porfirio didn’t have a seatbelt on and the steering wheel crushed his chest, killing him instantly.
The Allée de la Reine Marguerite is a lovely place for a stroll, but be careful when you walk. It can be remarkably easy to lose yourself in the peaceful atmosphere.
