“An avenue named after a mathematician? That’s unusual, don’t you think?” Right here in Livry-Gargan you will find Allée Carnot. This street isn’t celebrating a famous mathematician though. Allée Carnot takes its name from Lazare Nicolas Marguerite Carnot. He was a general, statesman, and scientist who lived from 1753 to 1823. Carnot played a significant role in the French Revolution. He voted for the king’s death and was a key figure in organizing the Republic’s fourteen armies as a member of the Committee of Public Safety. He faced exile during the Restoration due to his role in the Revolution. Interestingly, there is a Boulevard Carnot in Paris. It also honors Lazare Carnot and his legacy.
