“Outstanding” is the word that Ofsted used to describe All Saints Catholic School and Technology College. This school stands as a beacon of education in the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham. Let’s uncover the story behind this remarkable institution.

All Saints Catholic School is a Roman Catholic secondary school. It is located on Terling Road in Dagenham. The school’s journey is one of transformation and achievement.

Originally, the school was named Bishop Ward. In the mid-1950s, it was a mixed school. Then it became an all-boys school. Girls moved to the Sacred Heart all-girls school. In 1989, the schools combined again.

All Saints Catholic School holds a special distinction. It became a specialist college in technology. It was one of the first in the country. This focus helped shape its future.

The school’s history includes a period of struggle. Under the name Bishop Ward, results were poor. The atmosphere was described as “depressed and violent”. But things changed with the appointment of a new head teacher.

Desmond Smith became head teacher in 1984. Results steadily improved. By 2003, it was “the second most improved school in England”. This turnaround is a testament to strong leadership.

However, challenges remained. A 2003 Ofsted report noted some curriculum gaps. Music provision was particularly poor. The school worked to address these issues.

In 2008, All Saints Catholic School achieved training college status. It became one of the first twin colleges. This marked another step forward.

A 2007 Ofsted inspection rated the school as “Outstanding”. Inspectors praised the high standards and excellent teaching. They emphasized that the school believes each child is important. The school has a clear vision and a hunger for improvement.

Interestingly, All Saints Catholic College is located at 75 St Charles Square in London. You can call them on 020 8969 7111. The school day begins at 8:30 a.m. and ends at 3:15 p.m.

The headmaster at the school, Smith, made indiscreet remarks. This triggered the Cash for Peerages scandal in 2006. At the end of that school year, Smith retired. The Deputy Head Teacher Kevin Wilson replaced him.

Today, All Saints Catholic School continues to thrive. It serves around 1100 students. It remains the only Catholic voluntary aided comprehensive school in Barking and Dagenham. The school uses social media to share vital news. You can find All Saints Catholic College on Facebook, Instagram, Spotify and Twitter.
