Imagine letters dancing in the air. That’s the essence of the Alfabet Turèll Sculpture. It stands proudly on Dan Turèlls Plads.

This isn’t just any sculpture. It’s a tribute to a beloved writer and his love for language. The Alfabet Turèll Sculpture is a testament to Dan Turèll. Dan Turèll loved letters. He once said: “The alphabet is my best toy. I will play with it until it gets too dark to see.”

Kenn André Stilling a good friend of Dan Turèll created this masterpiece. He captured the writer’s playful spirit. The sculpture embodies Turèll’s affection for the written word. Stilling is also the founder of Sommersko.

The Alfabet Turèll Sculpture is made of rusted steel. Its rough surface gives it a warm glow. You will find every letter of the alphabet here. Grammatical signs are also included. A small d a large T a period and a question mark are all present.

Children and adults can interact with it. Climb on a letter. Rest against another. Let your thoughts wander among the characters.

Dan Turèlls Plads has been revitalized. It features new paving and trees. A 47-meter long mint green bench surrounds the sculpture.

The Alfabet Turèll Sculpture became the new heart of Vangede Bygade. The sculpture was officially inaugurated on October 15 2011. Borgmester Hans Toft and Chili Turèll together cut the red ribbon. Emil Nielsens smedeværksted did the beautiful metalwork.

Before the renovation the area was not inviting. A local pizzeria owner said it was mostly used as a dog toilet. Now people gather there. The Alfabet Turèll Sculpture has made the place more human and welcoming.

You can find more Turèll-related gems nearby. Visit Vangede Bibliotek a few hundred meters away. There is a small exhibition about Dan Turèll there.

Also look at the square in front of the library. You will find quotes from Turèll’s works. One quote reads: “I love everyday life. Most of all I love everyday life.”

The Alfabet Turèll Sculpture stands as a reminder. It reminds us of Dan Turèll’s impact. It celebrates his love for words and the beauty of the ordinary. It is a place where language comes to life.
