Following Jesus Together That’s the motto of Alderwood Community Church. It’s a welcoming sight isn’t it? This non-denominational church in Lynnwood Washington has been a part of the community for over a century. Originally founded in 1920 as Alderwood Manor Community Church it began as a small white building amidst farms. Today it’s a thriving hub of activity.
Alderwood Community Church isn’t just a Sunday morning gathering. It’s a place that serves hundreds of families weekly. Their Compassion Center provides food and assistance. They support missionaries around the world. They also host a Vietnamese and a Spanish congregation. This shows the diversity and impact of this church.
The church holds three Sunday services at 8 am 9:30 am and 11 am. The 8 am service is described as unplugged reflective and quieter. The 9:30 am and 11 am services have a more modern feel including a full band. They even offer online services for those who can’t make it in person.
The church is located at 3403 Alderwood Mall Boulevard. It’s quite a change from the rural setting of its beginnings. Now it’s surrounded by the Alderwood Mall and various businesses. The church itself is large with a sanctuary classrooms offices and the separate Compassion Center building. It’s a testament to the growth of the church and the community around it.
Interestingly the church’s future is uncertain. Sound Transit is planning a light rail extension and the church’s property is in the path. Church leaders are working hard to ensure the church remains a vital part of Lynnwood. Their hope is that the community support for Alderwood Community Church will persuade Sound Transit to find an alternative route.
