Beyond these massive bronze doors lies more than just a meal. Alchemist is a two-Michelin-starred restaurant. It delivers theatre and a holistic dining experience. It might just blow your shoes off.

Alchemist received two Michelin stars in 2020. This is quite uncommon for a young restaurant on Danish soil. Chef Rasmus Munk is the mastermind behind it. He moved from a tiny 15-seat restaurant. He has taken the dining experience to unseen heights.

Alchemist’s set menu has 50 impressions. Guests dine surrounded by art, theatre, sound, and light. Still, the main focus is on the food. The menu comments on social affairs. It addresses present issues. Chef Rasmus Munk wants the dining experience to resound further than the restaurant industry. He wants people to eat and then think.

Alchemist is in the raw and industrial neighborhood Refshaleøen. Its interior is baffling. When was the last time you dined under a dome? Especially one with a flickering aurora borealis above?

A night at Alchemist is unforgettable. Since opening in 2019, the Copenhagen restaurant has collected two Michelin stars. This is due to its creative and complex dishes. It also has a choreographed dining experience. Chef Rasmus Munk worked with Studio Duncalf. Together they reimagined the space. It was a former set-building workshop of the Royal Danish Theatre. They employ live actors and visual technology. This enhances Munk’s self-styled Holistic Cuisine.

Alchemist leads its guests on a sensory journey. Guests walk through neon halls and past graffiti-sprayed walls. A towering 13-meter wine cellar awaits. The 50-course menu is spread across five acts. A team of animators and a dramaturge serve it. Also 32 chefs contribute. Guests discover three AXOR collections in the bathrooms or kitchen.

Alchemist chose AXOR Starck Organic, AXOR MyEdition, and AXOR Citterio. They requested exclusive individualization services from AXOR FinishPlus. The AXOR Starck Organic electronic mixers have infrared sensors. This allows precise operation. It also provides economical water consumption. The AXOR MyEdition washbasin mixers use PowderRain technology. It envelops the skin in a cocoon of water. AXOR Citterio makes a monumental impression. It has geometric forms and strikingly flat surfaces. Each collection has a Brushed Black Chrome finish.

Munk says his goal is to change the world through gastronomy. At Alchemist, guests are transported out of their ordinary world. They enter a dimension outside time and space. Munk has found a willing audience. There is a 7,000-person waitlist. The menu comments on political and environmental issues. It is luxurious and self-aware. It is delicious and thought-provoking. Alchemist was named Best Restaurant in Denmark by White Guide. It has carved a space at the intersection of art, cuisine, and technology. Those dining here will emerge with plenty to savor and contemplate.

Alchemist is located on Refshaleøen. It is a remote part of Copenhagen. It is known for industrial buildings and a former shipyard. You must go to the very end of the stretch. There you will find two-ton bronze doors. They have decorations reminiscent of Narnia or Middle-Earth. They lead into the mystical world of Alchemist. Wait a few moments and they will automatically swing open. Then let the show begin.

When you enter Alchemist, be prepared for a journey. The experience divides into several acts. Guests move through different locations. They experience types of art and extraordinary craftsmanship. It is the realization of Rasmus Munk’s dream. He wants a holistic dining experience.

You will dine under a dome-shaped roof. Various graphic sceneries change throughout the dinner. Alchemist’s cuisine has a strong foundation. It uses classic techniques and modern research. Chef Munk obsessively searches for the best ingredients. Expect different types of caviar and seafood. Also pigeon aged in beeswax is served. Dishes are presented creatively. They will impress and bring out your inner child.

Alchemist’s dishes have a deeper message. Guests aren’t forced to attend lectures. But if you are curious, there is plenty to learn. There might be cod with edible plastic. This brings awareness to ocean pollution. Or a chocolate bar shaped like a coffin. This reminds us of child labor within the chocolate industry.

Munk uses the attention to raise funds. He feeds homeless people in Copenhagen. He also creates clean water solutions for people in Africa. He is a man on a mission.
