A small micro-cache. That’s what it said online. This is Alan Tanner Reserve Look Out. I bet you didn’t expect that.
Alan Tanner Reserve Look Out. It’s a quiet spot tucked away in Beachhaven. It commemorates Alan Tanner. He served the Beachhaven and Birkenhead communities. His dedication was outstanding. He lived from 1914 to 1988. The reserve initially offered harbour views. However trees obscured much of that view. Recently those trees were cut down. Now the view is once again spectacular.
This wasn’t always a scenic lookout though. It was once mostly bush and open grassy areas. The small reserve initially provided a view of the Gulf Harbour Marina. A narrow street makes parking challenging. Only one car fits at the given coordinates. Imagine the first geocachers finding this hidden spot. They probably searched late at night. Beware of the bank. And the gorse.
The cache itself is tiny. It’s a micro-cache. A testament to the small but significant things in life. Much like Alan Tanner’s impact on his community. He left a legacy. It’s a legacy that lives on in this peaceful reserve. Alan Tanner Reserve Look Out. A place to reflect. A place to remember. A place to discover. Enjoy the view.
