Once a lagoon, now a thriving park. Alameda Oriente welcomes you. This ecological park offers recreation and a connection to nature.
Alameda Oriente was once the Laguna de Xochiaca. The lagoon received wastewater from the airport for many years. Over time, it became a stabilization pond for organic matter. The water quality declined. People dumped garbage and dead animals there. The ecological balance was disrupted.
But, authorities saw the negative impact of this pollution. They decided to restore the area. The Xochiaca Project was born. It later became Alameda Oriente. The goal was to clean up and restore 90 hectares. The project aimed to develop flora and fauna naturally. It also sought to meet the community’s needs.
The project relocated the garbage dump. It also re-homed the scavengers. On August 24, 1987, the Bordo Xochiaca landfill officially closed.
The construction of Alameda Oriente solved pollution problems. These problems had affected the community. Now, everyone can enjoy the park.
Alameda Oriente covers 82.9 hectares. It is divided into nine zones. You will find sports facilities here. There are also recreational areas and gardens. The park has different tree and hedge species. It also includes a nursery and an artificial lake.
Trees like acacia and eucalyptus thrive here. You can also spot palm trees and ash trees.
Alameda Oriente offers several services. There is parking available. You can play on the fronton courts. There are also football and basketball courts. For fun, visit the mechanical games area. You could even try the go-carts.
Previously, the area was a severely polluted ecosystem. Uncontrolled harmful animals reproduced there. Foul odors filled the air. The area presented a deplorable image. It was also a place for crime. Today, Alameda Oriente combats pollution. It offers a recreational space.
In 2022, the Instituto de Educación Media Superior opened a campus here. It is named Venustiano Carranza II “Alameda Oriente”. The campus has classrooms and a library. There is also a computer lab and a dining area. Music classes are held in a special room.
Alameda Oriente gives people a tranquil environment. It is a place to connect with nature. It is perfect for picnics. This ecological park protects the environment. It conserves resources. The landscapes remain untouched by human activities.
