What if these walls could talk? They would tell tales of Alam Shah Science Secondary School. They would share stories of its humble beginnings and its rise to prominence. Alam Shah Science Secondary School is also known as ASiS.
Initially, Sekolah Alam Shah stood on this very ground. It was located in Kampung Congo which is now Bandar Tun Razak. In 2003, Sekolah Alam Shah relocated to Putrajaya after its 40th anniversary. Then, on June 16th 2003, Alam Shah Science Secondary School was founded here. It was named after the Selangor ruler.
Located on the outskirts of Kuala Lumpur, ASiS covers 34 acres. It has administration buildings, classrooms, and hostels. There is also a dining hall, teachers’ apartments, and sports facilities. These include tennis, futsal, football, and basketball courts. A rugby field is shared with Institut Perguruan Ilmu Khas.
Tn. Hj. Mohd Idrus bin Abdul Hamid was the first principal. He began his role on the day ASiS opened. In 2004, the first group of students sat for the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia SPM exam. There were 84 candidates. Each year, ASiS enrolls over 200 boys.
Students are divided into four houses for hostel placement. These houses are Bendahara, Temenggong, Laksamana, and Syahbandar. Each house has its own color and emblem. They compete for the House of the Year award at the Nostalgia Abadi Dinner. This is a graduation dinner.
ASiS has consistently ranked among the top schools in SPM examinations. In 2011, it was named a High Performance School. This honor is called Sekolah Berprestasi Tinggi.
The school’s motto is Kreatif, Inovatif, Produktif. This translates to Creative, Innovative, Productive. The school aims to mold world class leaders.
Alam Shah Science Secondary School has achieved much in a short time. Its students and staff are committed to excellence. ASiS continues to be a leading educational institution in Malaysia.
