This school actually has a very special history. Did you know that Akins Early College High School is named after William Charles Akins? He made history as the first black teacher at a high school after desegregation in the Austin Independent School District. Akins Early College High School is quite a significant educational hub in South Austin, Texas. It has seven different academies – Arts & Humanities, Leadership & Legal Enterprises, Green Technology, New Technology, Social Services, T-STEM, and Early College. The school offers highly specialized programs within each academy and provides a small-learning community experience. The unique academy system gives students a chance to explore various pathways.
