The imposing structure before you is the Akdeniz Üniversitesi Mimarlık Fakültesi. Its story is one of growth and ambition. Established in 2015 this faculty wasn’t always a separate entity.
Initially the departments of Architecture and Interior Architecture resided within the Faculty of Fine Arts. Landscape Architecture had a home in the Faculty of Agriculture. This arrangement presented challenges. The need for better coordination and resources was apparent. The university recognized this. They needed dedicated space and staff.
A decision was made. The Senate approved the creation of a stand-alone Faculty of Architecture. This significant step aimed to streamline education and improve infrastructure. The Council of Higher Education and the Council of Ministers supported the initiative. The new faculty brought together existing departments. It also added new ones: City and Regional Planning and Industrial Design. These additions broadened the scope of architectural education in Antalya.
The departments began their academic lives at different times. Landscape Architecture started in 1995. Interior Architecture followed in 2000. Architecture itself didn’t become a distinct undergraduate program until 2011. City and Regional Planning joined the fold even later in 2017. The university’s dedication to the program is evident.
