“Looking for a spiritual home?” That’s what Reverend Dr. Ben Nworie sought to provide when he envisioned a place for Africans to worship in Dallas. This is the story of the African Baptist Church of Oak Cliff.

In 1986 Dr. Nworie recognized a need. Africans in the Dallas-Fort Worth area needed a spiritual base. They needed a place to worship in their diverse cultural ways.

Initially, the church services were held at 4231 Maple Avenue in Dallas. Later the church moved to Audelia Road Baptist Church. This was an outreach mission of the host church.

In 1998 the African Baptist Church of North Dallas acquired its first property. The location was 10051 Shoreview Road in Dallas. The church remained there until May 2005.

June 2005 marked another move for the congregation. The African Baptist Church of North Dallas relocated to 3901 Lawler Road in Garland. This provided a larger space.

A significant change occurred in May 2011. The church name officially changed to Anointed Body of Christ Church. This reflected a new chapter in the church’s journey. The African Baptist Church of Oak Cliff continues to evolve. It adapts to the changing needs of its community.

Though the name has changed the legacy continues. It started with a vision to create a spiritual haven. It became a testament to faith. It embraced cultural diversity. The Anointed Body of Christ Church stands as a beacon of hope. It is rooted in the history of the African Baptist Church. It all began in Oak Cliff.
