Let’s step back in time. Governmental authorities approved the Penang Adventist Hospital to establish the Adventist College of Nursing in October 1992. The college then began offering a three-year Diploma Nursing program in September 1993. In September 1994 a 15-month conversion program started. It aimed to convert existing nursing aides into assistant nurses. Three batches of assistant nurses completed this training. This conversion program ended. It was replaced by the 24-month Assistant Nurse Certificate Course. This course began in January 1998 and stopped in 2019.
From the 1960s until 1980 Penang Adventist Hospital sent students to The School of Nursing of the Bangkok Adventist Hospital in Thailand. In the mid 1980s the government of Thailand disallowed foreign students from sitting for the national certificate and registration examination. So Penang Adventist Hospital stopped sending students to Thailand. They sought an alternative.
