Adventgemeinde is part of a larger movement. The Seventh-day Adventist Church spans over 200 countries. It boasts more than 20 million members. Its roots trace back to the 18th and 19th-century Christian revivals. The church officially formed in the United States in 1863. The Bible is the sole foundation for its 28 core beliefs.
What does it mean to be a Free Church? The Adventgemeinde distinguishes itself in a few key ways. It remains politically independent from the state. The church champions religious freedom worldwide. It firmly believes in the separation of church and state. Financial support comes solely from donations. Members practice believer’s baptism. Adults and youth choose baptism based on their own conviction.
The Adventgemeinde’s credo echoes an ancient Christian belief. “I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.” Early Christians professed simply: “Jesus is the Christ” or “Christ is the Lord.” These short statements evolved into detailed expressions of faith. They articulate the core tenets of Christianity.
The ancient “Credo” is a shared foundation. Christians recite it weekly. Seventh-day Adventists agree with it. However, it is not part of their regular worship. During the Reformation, Protestants created texts. These texts explained their beliefs. They clarified differences from tradition. They grounded their teachings in the Bible.

The first Adventgemeinde in Dresden was founded in 1901. Today, there are two Adventgemeinden. They have 300 members. They also have over 100 children and teens. Since 1927, Adventists have run the Sonnenhof. It is a self-catering retreat center.
