Why do they call it Beth Raphael Synagogue? We’re standing in front of the ACIP Vincennes, also known as the Vincennes Synagogue, a place steeped in history and a fascinating blend of cultures. The ACIP Vincennes was established in 1907. It served the growing Jewish community of Saint-Mandé, which included residents from Vincennes and the surrounding areas. Interestingly, the synagogue we see today wasn’t alone. In 2005, a new Sephardic synagogue, named Beth Raphael, was inaugurated right next door. This addition reflects the changing demographics of the community, with the arrival of Jewish refugees from North Africa in the 1960s. So, while ACIP Vincennes primarily served the Ashkenazi tradition, Beth Raphael caters to the Sephardic practices, creating a unique blend within this Jewish community. The ACIP Vincennes stands as a testament to the resilience and evolution of faith, a place where history and culture intertwine to create a vibrant tapestry of Jewish life here in Vincennes.
