In 1965, a small seed of faith was planted in Garland, Texas. This seed blossomed into the Abundant Life Church of God. Originally known as Jesus Name Pentecostal Church, it began humbly in the home of Alfred and Hazel Gay. The Rawlings, Hinkle, Doherty, Allen, Burkett, and McGee families were among the founding members. The church’s early journey involved several locations, finally settling at 400 Fairview Street in 1980. A significant turning point came on October 1, 1980. Glynn and Carolyn Davis were elected as pastors. With only 17 attendees on their first Sunday, the Davises embarked on a journey of faith and growth. The church’s name changed to Abundant Life Church in 1981. They moved to their current location and began expanding. The growing congregation needed more space. The church added a larger sanctuary, a parsonage, and a Family Life Center. In 1987, Abundant Life Christian Academy opened its doors, nurturing young minds for nine years. The Family Life Center transformed into a sanctuary in 2004. A new foyer and welcome center were completed in 2006. Abundant Life Church of God became known as a place of restoration. Many found solace and renewed hope within its walls. Pastors Glynn and Carolyn Davis have a passion for leadership development, impacting over 33 ministries by 2018. The church’s reach extends globally, with missions in around 30 countries. The Davises have personally led over 52 mission trips. Abundant Life Church of God also serves its local community. They offer support to the homeless and those in need. In 2007, “Restoration Now,” a TV program featuring their live service, broadened their reach. By 2015, their services were streaming live online. A small food pantry, started in 1981, has grown into one of the largest in the city. It is now named The Shirley Pierce Memorial Food Pantry. Abundant Life Church of God also runs the Global Priority Center, Restoration School of Ministries, Restoration Counseling Center, and ALC Ministerial Training and Licensing Center. In 1990, the Ministerial Association of Jesus Christ, Incorporated (MAJC) was established. Pastor Davis led this international ministry for many years. Abundant Life Church of God emphasizes restoration, praise, worship, and prayer. It serves as an interracial and multicultural center with an Apostolic Ministry covering. It places importance on children, youth, family life, and ministry training. Pastor Carolyn Davis, ordained in 2002, has a passion for worship, prayer, and leadership development. In 2014, both pastors were awarded Doctorate of Theology degrees. Abundant Life Church of God continues to look towards the future with faith and anticipation.
