Could a vacant school building become a beacon of faith? Here at Abiding Savior Lutheran Church, that’s exactly what happened. Back in the 1980s, this area was teeming with souls seeking spiritual guidance. It was then that a man’s prayer echoed through the years, a prayer answered a decade later. In 1983, this very spot, once a silent schoolhouse, was chosen to birth a new congregation. Imagine the anticipation as the old gymnasium was prepped for the first service on November 27, 1983! This marked the humble beginning of Abiding Savior Lutheran Church. The church blossomed, driven by the contagious enthusiasm of its members like Bud and Joan Jaudes. They were divinely drawn to this place, becoming pillars of the burgeoning community. But it wasn’t just about Sunday sermons. Abiding Savior Lutheran Church was deeply intertwined with education. Washington Lutheran School, established in 1984, was a testament to this commitment. You see, this church wasn’t content with merely existing, it was driven by a mission: “To Know Christ To Make Him Known”. That fervor led to incredible growth. By the year 2000, worship services were overflowing, necessitating a move to the current location on Butler Hill Road. Then came a vision, a dream of uniting the church and school under one roof. This vision culminated in the construction of the Worship & Family Life Center in 2001, followed by the educational wing in 2004. Today, Abiding Savior Lutheran Church stands as a testament to the power of faith, perseverance, and community. It reminds us that even in the unlikeliest of places, a spiritual sanctuary can take root and flourish.
