It’s a living testament to the dedication and passion of Aarhus’ rowing community. Aarhus Rostadion offers rowers a unique experience. A 2000-meter course stretches nearly the entire length of the lake. The lake itself is perfectly suited for outrigger rowing, a thrilling sport that combines speed, technique, and teamwork. Aarhus Rostadion houses around ten outrigger boats, ranging from single to four-person vessels, available to all members with sculling experience. The history of Aarhus Rostadion is intertwined with the growth of rowing in Aarhus. In the 1930s, the limitations of training on the bustling bay became clear to Aarhus’ rowing clubs. They needed a place where the wind and waves wouldn’t dictate their training schedules, a place of tranquility where they could hone their skills. Brabrand Lake offered the perfect sanctuary. Aarhus Rostadion began humbly. In the late 1930s, two rowing clubs built simple boathouses by the lake. This marked the beginning of a new chapter in Aarhus rowing. After World War II, with the addition of more rowing clubs, the need for a dedicated training facility grew. They envisioned a “Jutland version” of Bagsvaerd Lake, a renowned rowing venue near Copenhagen. In 1952, their dream materialized. Aarhus Rostadion, a modern, shared facility for all Aarhus rowing clubs, was inaugurated. The years that followed were a golden age for Aarhus rowing. The city’s rowers achieved remarkable results in both Danish and international championships. The lake became the stage for the prestigious “Brabrand Regatta.” Aarhus Rostadion hasn’t remained static. It was renovated and expanded in 1975. The municipality took over ownership in 1978, ensuring the financial stability of this vital sports center. The most recent transformation came in 2010 with the construction of a new clubhouse. Today, Aarhus Rostadion continues to serve as a hub for rowing and other water sports. It’s a place where beginners take their first strokes, where seasoned athletes refine their technique, and where the spirit of camaraderie thrives.
