From the lowest leagues to the Superliga and back again that’s the incredible story of Aarhus Fremad. Right here before you stands Riisvangen Stadium the home of this remarkable football club.

Aarhus Fremad a club with deep roots in Aarhus began its football journey in 1947. It wasn’t always easy. In fact in 1974 the team found itself in Serie 5 the tenth tier of Danish football with only nine members and crippling debt. This near-death experience however only fueled their resilience.

A new coach brought in sponsors and players. The club started climbing. Between 1984 and 1997 under coaches Kaj Jensen and Kim Poulsen Aarhus Fremad achieved the almost unbelievable nine promotions in thirteen years. This catapulted them into the Danish Superliga the top tier of Danish football. Their first Superliga match in 1997 against city rivals AGF was a thrilling 2-1 victory in front of 15000 spectators.

This success was short-lived. Relegation followed in 1999. A brief merger to form FC Aarhus ended in financial trouble. The club then faced a period of instability and financial struggles. The early 2000s saw multiple coaching changes. Then a surprising high point a 5-0 pre-season friendly loss to Manchester United in 2002 featuring stars like Ruud van Nistelrooy and Ryan Giggs.

Despite further ups and downs Aarhus Fremad persevered. In 2006 they reached the second tier again. A last-minute win in 2007 secured their place. Relegation followed. But they didn’t stay down for long another promotion came in 2015.

Since then Aarhus Fremad has continued to compete. The club’s history is a testament to its spirit a story of incredible rises unexpected falls and a determination to keep playing on. A story that continues to be written at Riisvangen Stadium.
