Have you ever heard a church being called a “home away from home”? Aarhus Bykirke is more than just a building dedicated to worship. It’s a vibrant community of around 420 adult members and 130 children, brought together by a shared faith. The Aarhus Bykirke came into being in 2009, founded by a group of young people connected to St. Lukas Church in Aarhus. The vision was to create a space where the traditional Christian values could meet the modern world, where the Bible is seen as God’s word, but interpreted in a way that is relevant to people in Aarhus. The church is considered a free church within the Danish National Church. It has its own constitution and is supervised by the dean and bishop like other congregations in the National Church. The initial years were spent gathering in different locations throughout Aarhus. Since December 2013, the church has found a home in the mission house Eben Ezer in Brammersgade. The Aarhus Bykirke is a place where people of all ages come together for Sunday services, community events, and smaller gatherings during the week. They might participate in social activities, engage in discussions about faith, or simply enjoy the comfort and fellowship. The church is characterized by a high degree of volunteer work, with many members contributing their time and skills to make the church a thriving space for all.
