“A running track indoors?” you might wonder. Right here, at the Aarhus Atletik- og Løbeakademi, that seemingly unusual concept becomes reality. This former exhibition hall, once known as Marselisborghallen, has been transformed into a vibrant hub for athletics. Aarhus Atletik- og Løbeakademi is more than just a building. It’s a testament to the power of community and the pursuit of athletic excellence. The Aarhus Atletik- og Løbeakademi opened its doors in its current form in 2019, thanks to generous support from the Salling Foundations and Aarhus Kommune. However, its roots go back to 1968 when it was originally built for Tivoli Friheden. It then served as a venue for exhibitions and concerts before its transformation into a sports hall in 1977. Today, the Aarhus Atletik- og Løbeakademi serves as the home of Aarhus 1900 Atletik og Løb, catering to athletes of all levels, from beginners to elite competitors. The academy also plays a crucial role in national talent development as the home of Elite Kraft Center Vest. Inside, the revitalized space is buzzing with energy. Athletes train in the running track and field facilities while others use the state-of-the-art strength and cardio training areas. Imagine the rhythmic pounding of feet on the indoor track, the whoosh of a javelin, the thud of a shot put. The air is alive with the energy of athletes pushing their limits. The academy also hosts a six-week athletics program for school children, fostering a love for sports from a young age. It covers running, jumping, and throwing techniques, culminating in a final competition held either at the Aarhus Atletik- og Løbeakademi or at a proper athletics stadium like CERES Park or Viby Stadium. After a strenuous workout, athletes can relax in the modern changing facilities, complete with showers, sauna, and a balcony for fresh air. The cafe, Klubhuset, provides a comfortable space to unwind and connect with fellow athletes. From its humble beginnings as an exhibition hall, the Aarhus Atletik- og Løbeakademi has become a vital center for athletics and community. It’s a place where dreams are nurtured, records are broken, and the spirit of sport thrives, all year round, rain or shine, thanks to its indoor facilities.
