Sid Ahmed Ghlam was apprehended shortly thereafter. Ghlam was an Algerian student. He had plans for a major terrorist act. Ghlam intended to attack a church in Villejuif. Ghlam’s arrest prevented a potential massacre.
Ghlam’s trial revealed a chilling plot. He had meticulously planned the attack. Ghlam even timed police response routes. His goal was to inflict maximum casualties on churchgoers.
The court found Sid Ahmed Ghlam guilty. He was guilty of Aurélie Châtelain’s murder. He was also guilty of planning a terrorist act. Ghlam received the maximum sentence. He was sentenced to life imprisonment with a 22-year minimum. He was also permanently banned from France.
