What if the earth held secrets just beneath its surface? Here, outside Arken Museum of Modern Art, lies 8900054. This intriguing artwork invites us to ponder what is hidden from view.

8900054, a creation born from the minds of artist Olafur Eliasson and Icelandic architect Einar Thorsteinn, presents a captivating geometric puzzle. Initially conceived for Mågeparken in Hvidovre, it found its permanent home here in 2002. Imagine two structures emerging from the ground. They appear as if time has slowly buried them.

These frameworks share a resemblance to the geodesic domes. Look closer. You will see a unique twist. Geodesic domes use triangles. 8900054 uses hexagons and pentagons. Twelve pentagons form a full sphere. Six pentagons create a dome.

Notice the larger dome. Only one pentagon is visible above ground. It sits at the structure’s apex. The other five remain hidden. They lie out of sight beneath the surface.

A few meters away, observe the smaller structure. It barely peeks above the grass. This hints at something more. Could another, larger dome be submerged below?

8900054 is made from stainless steel tubes. The larger structure doubles as a climbing frame. Children can clamber over its surface.

Eliasson and Thorsteinn developed 8900054 in close dialogue. They created a piece that blends art and science. The artwork plays with geometry. It makes us think about hidden spaces.

Copenhagen is a city that embraces art. It combines the old and the new. Copenhagen preserves its history while looking to the future. This city was founded in 1167. Bishop Absalon built a castle here. Copenhagen became the capital of Denmark in 1445.

Consider the Vikings. All Danes share Viking blood. From the 8th to 11th centuries Vikings raided Europe. They settled across Europe and even in Asia.

Think about the royal family. Danes see them as moral protectors. During World War II, King Christian X rode through Copenhagen daily. He showed resistance against German occupation.

His Majesty King Frederik X and Her Majesty Queen Mary are role models. They balance work and play. King Frederik X even completed an Ironman in Copenhagen.

8900054 encourages interaction. It invites exploration. It sparks curiosity about what lies beneath. As you leave 8900054, consider what other secrets Copenhagen holds. Perhaps they are just waiting to be discovered.
