Imagine living in a skyscraper that once defined Austin’s skyline. That is the story of the 360 Condominiums. We are standing before a building that held the title of Austin’s tallest not so long ago.
The 360 Condominiums is more than just a residential building. It is a testament to Austin’s rapid growth. This skyscraper is located at 360 Nueces Street in downtown Austin. The 360 Condominiums reaches a height of 581 feet. That is about 177 meters. It has 44 floors which house 430 condos. The building also offers over 14000 square feet of retail space.
Construction of the 360 Condominiums began in June 2006. The tower topped out in November 2007. It was officially completed on May 22, 2008. For a brief period, from January 15, 2008, the 360 Condominiums reigned as the tallest building in Austin. But on June 29, 2009, The Austonian surpassed it. It was also the tallest residential tower in Texas. The Austonian later took that title as well. Today, the 360 Condominiums is the fourth-tallest building in Austin. The Independent, The Austonian, and the Fairmont Austin are taller.
Billy Holley and Judd Bobilin of Novare Group and Andrews Urban LLC developed the Austin 360 Condominiums. Preston Partnership LLC designed it. Kevin McDaniel managed the sales. J.E. Dunn Construction built the tower. A notable design feature is the setback at the sixteenth story. This was included to preserve the Capitol View Corridor.
The original proposal in 2006 envisioned a 40-story tower. It would have been 520 feet tall. The developers added more floors to increase the number of units. Construction progressed steadily. The terrace level was reached nearly a year after construction started. Activity slowed briefly. It then sped up after the setback floor was completed. The spire assembly began in November. It was secured in place just six days later.
The 360 Condominiums opened its doors on May 23, 2008. Residents here enjoy several amenities. These include a swimming pool, a sundeck, a theater, and a clubroom. These are located within the tower and on the terrace. The terrace is 174 feet above the ground.
The 360 Condominiums remains a prominent feature of the Austin skyline. Its history reflects the city’s dynamic growth and architectural ambition. It is a place where residents enjoy luxury living with stunning views. The 360 Condominiums stands as a symbol of Austin’s vibrant urban landscape.
