How committed must a person be to spend over 40 years as a pastor, you ask? Let me tell you about the 34th Street Church of God and the man who has spent more than half his life dedicated to this community. The 34th Street Church of God is more than just a building. It’s a testament to the unwavering faith and leadership of Bishop Thomas Scott. Bishop Scott’s journey began in Macon, Georgia, where he heard the call to ministry in 1971. His path led him to Jacksonville, Florida, where he honed his skills under the guidance of Rev. Dr. Richard Harry Patrick Cleveland at the 4th Street Church of God. In 1980, he took the helm of the 22nd Street Church of God, guiding it through a period of transformation that culminated in the construction of a new edifice: the 34th Street Church of God that stands before you today. Under Bishop Scott’s leadership, the church flourished, becoming a beacon of hope and inspiration. His vision extended beyond the church walls, leading to the establishment of King’s Kids Christian Academy, one of Tampa’s premier schools. He also spearheaded the creation of the Tampa Bay Family & Community Development Corporation, further expanding the church’s positive impact. The 34th Street Church of God is a testament to Bishop Scott’s dedication, compassion, and unwavering belief in the power of faith to uplift a community.
