Here in Bonn’s Rheinaue park, near the Post Tower, these 30 women stand in a silent circle. They’ve been here since 2007, a captivating piece of public art. The 30 Frauen are part of a much larger project. Schwichtenberg began “Women De Formation” in 1988. Her daughter served as the model for the first figure, radiating an energy that inspired the artist to create more. Now, over 100 bronze figures exist. Each figure tells a story. Some depict specific roles or archetypes, like the Nun, the Popess, or the Soldier. Others embody more abstract concepts, like Death, Dream, or Schizophrenia. Here in Bonn, the 30 Frauen form a circle with no beginning and no end. They represent not victims, but individuals responsible for their own growth. The 30 Frauen invite us to contemplate the complexities and strengths of women throughout history and within society. Their silent presence speaks volumes. It’s a powerful and moving artwork that leaves a lasting impression.
