The Danish Royal Family attended his funeral in Stockholm. Despite their grief, they attended a gala performance. It was held at the Royal Danish Theatre. The Silver Jubilee held special importance for Queen Margrethe. Her father, King Frederick IX, died months before his own Silver Jubilee in 1972.

The next morning, the Royal Family appeared on the balcony of Amalienborg Palace. They waved to the crowds. A service of Thanksgiving followed. Then, a carriage procession moved through Copenhagen. A reception took place at City Hall.

King Harald V and Queen Sonja of Norway were also present. They wore Queen Josefina’s Diamond Tiara. Prince Richard and Princess Bendikte attended. Crown Prince Haakon, Crown Prince Pavlos, and Crown Princess Marie Chantal joined.
