Did you know that the Minhang Museum is more than just a building? It’s a journey through time. We are standing in front of the Minhang Museum. It is located in Shanghai’s Minhang district.

This museum is a gateway to understanding the dawn of Chinese civilization. It is a key place to delve into the ancient Liangzhu culture. This culture boasts a history spanning over 4000 years.

Inside the Minhang Museum you can find over 150 relics. These relics come from the Maqiao Cultural Site. This site was once an ancient village. It thrived during the Neolithic period over 4000 years ago.

But there is more to discover at the Minhang Museum. “700 Years of Shanghai County” exhibition features over 300 relics. These span different historical periods. Imagine seeing ancient pottery vessels. Envision clothes from the Ming Dynasty. Think about daily articles from the Republic of China period. They showcase Shanghai’s unique history. Several historical scenes are recreated. Visitors feel as if they are traveling back in time.

Do you love music? The Minhang Museum also has a Gallery of Traditional Chinese Instruments. Over 200 instruments are displayed. They produce beautiful sounds and are works of art. In the percussion section you will find the yunluo instrument. It features 37 gongs surrounded by four golden dragons. Wind instruments like bone flutes, xun, xiao and sheng are also featured. Plucked and stringed instruments attract many visitors. A delicate pipa is also displayed here. It is a pear-shaped stringed instrument.

Don’t miss the Maqiao Cultural Site Exhibition. It may be the smallest. Yet it features exquisitely carved pottery. Some relics show influences from other ancient cultures. This proves cultural exchange existed. Various tools used by this ancient culture are also on display.

The Minhang Museum also hosts special exhibitions regularly. This adds new layers to its already rich collection.

The Minhang Museum is designed as a spiral rising from the ground. Its roof is an extension of the park’s landscape. This landscaped roof offers public space. From here you can view the surrounding Qibao Culture Park. The museum experience includes linked outdoor spaces. There is an entry plaza, a sculpture courtyard and a rooftop garden.

Three exhibition spaces are arranged around a vertical lobby. They showcase Ma Qiao cultural artifacts. Traditional musical instruments are also presented. Finally the Minhang history completes the circle.

So come and explore. The Minhang Museum is located at No 1538 Xinzhen Road. It is open from 9:30 am to 4:30 pm. The last entry is at 4 pm. It is closed on Mondays except public holidays. The Minhang Museum is waiting to tell its stories. It connects us to Shanghai’s past. It helps us understand Chinese culture.
