“Can you feel that gentle breeze?” It whispers secrets of centuries past as we stand before Sainenji Temple. This temple is a serene escape from the modern world. Sainenji Temple offers a place for reflection.

Sainenji Temple has a history linked to the tragic tale of Kogo Castle. After its abandonment a monk felt the need to create a place of Buddhist practice. He was inspired by the impermanence of the castle. This monk’s dedication led to the founding of Sainenji Temple.

The story continues with a man named Kunimori Fukushima Masanori. He deeply respected the monk. Heeding the wishes of those who admired the monk he moved his family temple to this location. This marked the start of Sainenji Temple.

Look closely at the main hall. It was built in 1749. It hosts concerts screenings and local events. The hall has tatami rooms. These rooms serve various gatherings.

Notice the old camphor tree. Its age is about 400 years. Locals call it “Kusunoki”. The tree stands as a silent witness to the temple’s long history.

Explore the temple grounds to find remnants of war. You can find bullets from the Choshu征討 incident of 1866. Sainenji Temple displays traces of conflict within a peaceful setting.

Find the small Jizo statue. It is the oldest in Ohtake city. People believe it to be the oldest six-foot Jizo statue in the city. It saw much unrest and war. It is a survivor that stands alongside the camphor tree.

The main hall offers stunning views. From here you can see Hiroshima Miyajima Etajima and distant Suo Oshima.

Step inside the main hall. It features complete with chairs. You can admire the view of Miyajima from the edge of the hall.

Sainenji Temple is more than just a building. It serves as a haven. It is a place to feel at ease. The temple welcomes everyone. It provides a space to escape the daily grind. Sainenji Temple is a place to simply be.
