\u7b2c\u4e8c\u5b66\u79d1\u697c is part of Shanghai Second Polytechnic University. The university has a rich history. It began in 1960 as Shanghai Industry and Spare-time Industrial University. This was China’s first vocational university.
In 1965 the name changed to Shanghai Half-Work Half-Study Industrial University. In 1970 it reverted to its original name. It became Shanghai Industry and Spare-time Industrial University again. Then in 1984 the name changed to Shanghai Second Polytechnic University.
The university started with adult education. It then offered full-time vocational education. Later it became a regular undergraduate university. The State Council recognized it for special talent programs.
In 1977, the university resumed admitting students. The first undergraduate students were admitted in 1978. Jiang Zemin, then Mayor of Shanghai, gave a speech at the university in 1985. This was during the first Teacher’s Day celebration. In 2000, Jiang Zemin, then General Secretary, wrote an inscription for the university’s 40th anniversary.
In July 2000, it became a full-time higher vocational college. In November 2001, Shanghai East China Vocational and Technical College merged into the university. In 2003, it became a full-time undergraduate university. It focused on engineering. It also included management and arts.
In April 2009, the university was chosen for a master’s degree program in engineering. In July 2020, the Jin Hai Road campus expansion began. This added student dormitories and engineering buildings. The expansion was planned to be completed in September 2022.
Shanghai Second Polytechnic University has several campuses. The main campus is on Jin Hai Road. There is also a national university science park. Additionally, there is the Qi Dong Research Institute. This shows the university’s wide reach.
Several notable people are alumni of the university. This includes Jiang Miankang and Bao Qifan. Bao Qifan is a national model worker. Li Bin was also a national model worker. He was the vice chairman of the Shanghai Federation of Trade Unions.
