In 1964, a seed of hope was planted in Fukuoka. This seed blossomed into the Fukuoka City Higashi Fukuoka Special Support School. This isn’t just any school. It’s a place where children with intellectual disabilities find their voices, their strengths, and their futures. Originally, the school was known as the Higashi Fukuoka Yogo School. It began as a branch of the Mabuta Elementary School. As we stand here, before its modern façade, imagine the school in its early days. It was a much smaller institution then, nestled in temporary quarters. The school has grown considerably since then, adding a junior high division in 1965 and a senior high school in 1984. This expansion reflects Fukuoka City’s ongoing commitment to inclusive education. The school moved to its current location in 1984. The subsequent years saw further development. A pool was completed in 1985. A senior high mild disabilities program was established in 2000. In 2007, the school underwent a significant transformation. With the implementation of special needs education, it was renamed Fukuoka City Higashi Fukuoka Special Support School. This change marked a shift towards a more individualized and supportive approach to learning. The school’s name, Higashi Fukuoka, directly refers to its location in the eastern part of Fukuoka City. The school’s address is 8-1, Aoba, 3-chome, Higashi-ku, Fukuoka City, Fukuoka Prefecture. The dedication of the staff and the resilience of the students have shaped the Fukuoka City Higashi Fukuoka Special Support School into a beacon of hope. It serves as a reminder that every child deserves the opportunity to learn and grow, regardless of their challenges.
