Their answer became known as the Fukuoka Method, also called the “semi-aerobic landfill technology”. Now, picture yourself standing before Fukuoka University’s large-scale simulator facility, a testament to this groundbreaking waste treatment technology. Officially named the Fukuoka University Waste Landfill Large-Scale Simulator Facility, this site isn’t a landfill itself. Rather, it’s a sophisticated research hub dedicated to refining and promoting the Fukuoka Method. The method’s ingenuity lies in its simplicity. By incorporating a network of pipes at the landfill’s base, they facilitate a natural flow of oxygen. This oxygen fuels microorganisms within the waste.
