“Nature is calling. Are you ready to answer?” Here at Aburayama Fukuoka Campfield adventure awaits. Let’s uncover the story of this unique destination.
Aburayama Fukuoka Campfield is more than just a campsite. It is a place reborn from the unification of Aburayama City Forest and Aburayama Farm. Imagine a place where city meets nature.
In 1969, Aburayama City Forest opened. It was a space for recreation and youth development. Now, it has transformed into a multifaceted outdoor experience.
The name “Aburayama” has interesting origins. In the 8th century, a priest refined camphor oil from white camphor fruits on this mountain. He used this oil for lamps marking it as Japan’s first place to light lamps with camphor oil.
This area is easily accessible. It’s only a 30-minute drive from central Fukuoka. Aburayama offers a convenient escape into nature. JR Kyushu renovated this complex. They aimed to revitalize Fukuoka by highlighting Aburayama’s natural beauty.
The concept behind Aburayama Fukuoka is “ABURAYAMA BACK TO NATURE FUKUOKA”. This reflects JR Group’s vision. The logo, ABY BNF was designed by Katsumi Sato.
This facility focuses on sustainability. It uses composting and solar power. These efforts contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals.
Aburayama Fukuoka Campfield offers various activities. There is camping, barbecue areas, farms, and restaurants. You can also find outdoor shops and cafes. The site offers experiences like milking cows and horseback riding. These were also offered in the Aburayama Farm era. Animal manure is used as compost. This compost fertilizes the vegetables grown here.
These vegetables are served in the restaurants. Food waste becomes compost. Microorganisms then turn the compost into fertilizer. This fertilizer nourishes more crops completing a sustainable cycle.
At the experiential tourism farm “Shiji Farm,” guests can harvest seasonal vegetables. “Shiji” represents the shifting times of day and seasons. Guests can pick fresh vegetables and use them as pizza toppings. These pizzas bake in a special stone oven, at high temperatures. The pizza is ready in just 60 to 90 seconds.
The “Share Farm” allows locals to enjoy vegetable gardening. All tools fertilizer seedlings and seeds are provided. Novices can learn from a vegetable gardening advisor. Participants can enjoy everything from planting to harvesting.
The “Cheese Stand” uses milk from the farm to make fresh cheese. This cheese is used in cheese plates sandwiches and pizzas. “Restaurant Sola Aburayama” provides views of the sea and Fukuoka. The restaurant serves dishes using local vegetables. Chef Hiroki Yoshitake oversees the menu.
The “Forest Kiosk” sells milk and soft serve ice cream. These come from the cows grazing on the pasture. They also sell camping supplies and logo T-shirts. You can also purchase compost bags here. The firewood available comes from local broadleaf and needle-leaf trees.
Solar panels power parts of the facility. This reduces CO2 emissions. This clean energy initiative is displayed on monitors.
Aburayama Fukuoka Campfield has free sites and powered sites. New in 2024, dog run sites and cottages are available.
Before “Snow Peak Aburayama Fukuoka”, you will find Snow Peak and Starbucks. Snow Peak offers camping gear rentals.
Local wood was used in the shop’s design. This supports local production.
Exclusive adventures are available for overnight guests. Options include net courses and zipline courses. In 2024, a mountain bike trail adventure will open.
Aburayama offers an experience close to the city. You can feel the breeze and warmth of the sun. It allows you to appreciate nature’s abundance.
