Then there’s Mr Bell Robert Dixon. An Englishman. He lived in number 18. He worked for Harvie Cooke and Co. A prominent shipping company. He held a high-ranking position within the company.
Number 10 holds a particularly captivating story. In 1947 Mr Bell lived there. Prior to him a resident lived there from 1939 to 1947. His presence is marked only by a small red book. The building itself has changed hands many times. One building recently sold for a price just shy of one million yuan. A testament to the enduring allure of this historic place.
